Use no 42 Mrs Tiggywinkle's Laundry - hot pants!

INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SELLAFIELD LAUNDRY AND CUMBRIAN HOTELS - (Mrs Tiggywinkle and the hot pants) A Cumbrian laundry, Shortridge, supplying some of the most prestigious hotels in the Lake District has a £50,000 - £600,000 contract to provide a contingency laundry for Sellafield's towels and underwear. There is no monitoring once the laundry leaves Sellafield, no checks once it arrives at the same laundry used by Cumbrian Hotels. Baroness Verma’s recent comments about the intimate relationship between the nuclear industry and tourism perhaps refers to the use of the same laundry? £500,000 has been pledged by government to protect the Lake District’s image. No doubt aggressive Mrs Tiggywinkle marketing could put a positive spin on the nuclear laundry being shared with Cumbrian hotels. The only brand protection worth having is to contain radioactive contamination on the Sellafield site rather than dispersing it to the environment at previously non nuclear sites through landfill, metal "recycling", a proposed nuclear dump and now, we learn, the laundry! The Environment Agency has provided answers below confirming the appalling situation which, despite assurances, opens up another new pathway for routine and accidental contamination. This has only come to light as a result of an anonymous letter to Radiation Free Lakeland. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Environment Agency -Freedom of Information Answers: PROTECT-NTH6582H Dear Marianne Thank you for your request for information which was received in this office on 14 January 2013. Requests for information that are recorded are generally governed by the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA). The information you have requested is environmental and it is therefore exempted from the provisions of FOIA by FOIA s.39(1). We have therefore considered your request under the provisions of the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR). I will answer your points in turn. Laundry at Sellafield Sellafield Ltd has an on-site laundry for active and non-active (i.e. contaminated and non-contaminated) laundry. However, in case the laundry cannot operate, Sellafield Ltd has a contract with Shortridge Laundry as a contingency for the non-active (i.e. non-contamined) laundry. 1. Has Shortridge Laundry a discharge license? Shortridge Laundry does not have and does not require an environmental permit from the Environment Agency. We understand that it does have a discharge consent from United Utilities to discharge to sewer. 2. Where is the discharged water going to? Discharges to sewer from Shortridge Laundry are treated by United Utilities at its waste water treatment works. 3. How long has Sellafield been contracting out laundry? We understand that Sellafield Ltd has had a contingency contract for non-active (i.e. non-contaminated) laundry for approximately 4 years. 4. Who is responsible for monitoring this new pathway for accidental and routine release of radioactivity? There is no new pathway for accidental and routine releases of radioactivity as Shortridge Laundry is only contracted for non-active (i.e. non-contaminated) laundry. Hence there is no requirement or responsibility for monitoring. Sellafield Ltd is responsible for ensuring that only non-active laundry is sent to Shortridge Laundry and has arrangements in place to achieve this (e.g. monitoring of clothing). We hope that this answers your queries. Many thanks. With what shall I cool them, dear Liza, dear Liza, with what shall I

Where should I get it, dear Liza, dear Liza, where should I get it, dear

From the rivers, dear Hendry, dear Hendry , dear Hendry, from the

The rivers are empty, dear Liza, dear Liza, the rivers are empty, dear

ENVIRONMENT AGENCY PROPOSE A SOLUTION TO DECC's POLICY PROBLEM: DESALINATION PLANT

NUCLEAR ROULETTE
When it comes to producing electricity, nuclear is an extravagantly water-wasting technology. A
nuclear power station requires between 20 to 83 percent more water than any other kind of power
plant. Even Westinghouse’s “Generation III”AP1000 needs to consume as much as 750,000 gallons per minute to operate safely

Create Dependency - withdraw supply -watch them plead for more..

The way in which the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (who are they kidding?) coldly announced the closure of the Sellafield MOX - without any talks with the workforce was in the tradition of the best drug pushers. The surprise announcement was designed to ensure pleading for new nuclear developments. Sure enough Jamie Reed MP and other nuclear shills are calling for MOX 2 (!) along with new reactors and geological disposal.

The NDA have said the closure of MOX is to end the financial burden to the taxpayer. The sincerity of this statement could only be believed if the NDA then went on to say:

No more spent fuel will be delivered to Sellafield

All jobs expertise and taxpayers money will now be put into looking after existing wastes which will not be dispersed into the environment by deep burial, dumped in landfill, recycled into pots and pans or as with MOX and Thorp turned from solid spent fuel into more dangerous and larger volumes of liquid high level wastes (reprocessing)

Then perhaps I would believe the NDA when they say they are concerned about taxpayer billions.

Dodgy Hacking

Dodgy Hacking

Recent correspondence has revealed that no one will be prosecuted over the body hacking scandal carried out by the nuclear industry for over 40 years in collusion with government, hospitals, coroners and doctors. Heads are rolling over the phone hacking scandal - quite rightly - but there is a toxic blind eye turned to the morally and financially bankrupt nuclear 'industry' (is it really an 'industry' when paid for by the taxpayer).

I have seen correspondence from Cumbria Constabulary which says that despite the findings of the Redfern Inquiry that the relationship between the nuclear industry and fellow bodysnatching conspirators was "too close" no one will be prosecuted as it is not "in the public interest" Money has changed hands to smooth the way for 40 years of body snatching.

Extract from letter sent by "Special Operations" - Cumbria Constabulary
"the issues you raise which I have listed below;
1. That specific people and institutions have breached the Human Tissue Act and that this should be investigated.
2. That an investigation into whether there was any unlawful corruption of the coronial processes had taken place
3. The stipends made to mortuary attendants are also of particular concern.

This was a Government led review which involved both the Department for Energy and Climate Change and the Ministry of Justice. As such any requirement on the police to investigate identified breaches as outlined above would be made by the Government. No such request has been made".

Surprise Surprise! No such request is likely to be made. Successive governments have been in collusion with an industry whose corruption takes your breath away - this government is continuing the toxic tradition.

Thousands of experiments - but Government insist "population mixing" is the cause of cancers...

NORWEGIAN WHISTLEBLOWERS - THANK YOU!

Use 11

Whistleblowers - Neptune Network from Norway

Police today removed Neptune Network's campaigners from the railway line at Sellafield. Why Oh Why are'nt thousands of Cumbrians sat on the railway preventing nuclear wastes from being delivered to Sellafield? Perhaps it is because the intelligentsia have been neutered by The Guardian's George Monbiot. Perhaps it is because Cumbrians think 'why bother - our souls are owned by the company store' - but George isn't Go(o)d and the company store turns out to be paid for by the tax payer. The wastes that Neptune Network are blowing the whistle on, travel to Sellafield from around the world and through "reprocessing" even higher level wastes are added to the growing toxic brew. Norwegian campaigner, Frank Hugo Storelv said "The plant cannot handle the waste they already have in a responsible way and they say themselves that Sellafield cannot accommodate more without creating an untenable security situation. Sellafield stores most of the world's nuclear waste and Norway is under threat from this."

Meanwhile Chair of Cumbria tourism Eric Robson has said that he supports "geological disposal" under Cumbria of this toxic brew because:
"I'm convinced by the scientific arguments that geological disposal rather than burying our heads in the sand is the best way forward. Nuclear waste is with us. We can't wish it away despite the best efforts of some so-called environmentalists. My views are well known and I am elected as chairman of Cumbria Tourism, rather than being self appointed."
Fair enough to have a personal view - but as well as being Chair of Cumbria Tourism this popular chap is also the owner of the PR company recieving taxpayer's money to promote "steps towards geological disposal"
As the Norwegians have shown the waste just keeps on coming!
Where is that wild Border Reivers spirit? They were villains precisely because the "Borderers of both England and Scotland by the 16th century realised that their respective government could no longer provide justice nor protection" The Border Reivers may have been outlaws but they never stole our future - or left us with our beautiful land unfit for anything but a nuclear graveyard.

A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT..

A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT - STRAIGHTENING THE RIVER CALDER

The river Calder is an important Cumbrian habitat for river wildlife. Creatures that make their way to the Irish Sea from the river Calder and Ehen include brown trout which become sea trout and eels which make an incredible journey to the Sargasso Sea near Bermuda. Their journey takes them through ancient landscapes, the river meanders in serpentine loops all the way until it reaches Sellafield. What a shock the animals have, here the river Calder has been straightened so that radioactive discharges and run off released into the river can pass through the 6 mile nuclear plant as quickly as possible.

"the Calder was originally a meandering river through the middle of the site"
